The Green Invcstment Bank (GIB) have £3.8bn of capital to
invest in green infrastructure, provided by the UK Government, of
which 20% is available for renewable heat, marine energy,
carbon capture and storage, biomass power and transport
biofuels.
Although initially the focus was on larger projects (£1m + ) the
GIB is now looking at smaller projects, including community
projects.
Investment must be additional. GIB involvement must be necessary
for the project to go ahead. GIB aim to crowd-in other private
sector capital.
The GIB deals on commercial terms, it does not provide
grants, 'soft capital', regional assistance or development
capital.
