The Renewable Energy Investment Fund (REIF) helps promote the
use of energy from renewable sources and drive further investment
into key areas of Scotland's renewables industry.
Alongside private sector parties, REIF will provide innovative
interventions tailored to individual project requirements and is
expected to significantly accelerate access to finance for key
projects in the renewables sector that have demonstrable funding
gaps.
Designed to complement existing public and private sector
finance schemes currently available in Scotland, REIF has £103
million available to provide loans, equity investments and
guarantees (but not grant funding) for projects that:
- Accelerate the growth of the
marine renewable energy sector in Scotland, or
- Increase
community ownership of renewable energy projects in Scotland
(including stakes in commercial schemes), or
- Provide for
district heating networks that utilise renewable heat
technologies like heat pumps, biomass boilers and solar thermal
panels and other renewable energy projects
REIF will also consider
projects in other areas that support the delivery of energy
from a renewable source or are an innovative renewable energy
technology.
