Many farmers and estate owners have their own potential wood
fuel supply in under-managed woodlands. These are sometimes seen as
problematic, or uneconomic, but can be an opportunity both to save
money in fuel costs and to develop a new income stream from sales
of woodfuel.
Read our Gelston Lodge Cottages
case study to see just one example of woodfuel production adding
economic value to woodlands.
The potential of under-managed woodlands as a wood fuel source
is significant. The Forestry Commission estimates that two million
tonnes of wood could be harvested from them by 2020.
The Scottish Government is supporting the management of
farm/estate woodlands with funding through the Scottish
Rural Development Program. For further information on SRDP
options contact your
